The lobby was a pleasant surprise with a seating area full of couches, chairs, and a table. The hotel overall had an old time feel with a bit of history. If you don’t like interacting with others during your stay, this is the place for you.
This was an extremely disappointing stay. When we arrived there was no signage of where to go, how to check in, etc. We walked into the hotel’s restaurant and asked how we were supposed to check in and they let us know they would get a manager. A manager with a laptop met us in the seating area to check us in by confirming our name. He mentioned we should have been talked to by another member of the staff already that there was construction going on and they “upgraded” our room. We walked up three flights of stairs and through construction on the second floor to get to our room that had no garden view as we booked. It was more of a suite than a room, but not much of an upgrade. I believe this room may have had some type of renovations lately as there was a kitchenette and newish couch, but needed much more upgrading in the bathroom and bedroom. The bathroom was uncomfortable and the shower was extremely small, rusted, and NO hot water, at all. The bedroom was big enough for just the queen bed that had two pillows. To get on the bed you have to climb over the railing at the end and climb up, as there is no room to walk on either side. There was a TV with a remote that you could only go up and down the channels. We wanted to go grab an item from our car, but decided it wasn’t the best idea, as you have to walk down a completely dark alley to get to the parking area behind the building. If you leave in the evening, you have to remember a guest code as they lock the doors to the building because there is no staff present at night. You must also lock the main door behind you before heading to your room. We were excited that check out was not until noon, but were met with an 8 AM sharp wake up call when construction started below us, constant banging and grinding that filled the entire room. When we left mid morning, there were construction bags and tools all over the floor that we had to step over to get down the stairs.

We loved the rich history of this Hotel. Our stay was unfortunately too brief to really take it all in, so we’d like to make a return visit! The garden seemed exceptional, and we’d love to spend some time relaxing there and at the bar. Staff was very helpful.
The overhead lights and the mattress could use a little updating.

Beautiful old building Lovely, walkable town Convenient restaurant/pub attached (except Sundays) Convenient and safe parking
Under staffed Bed too hard (no pillow top or memory foam) Low water pressure Heating/cooling system needs instructions because it’s not intuitive Breakfast not available (on Sunday)

The hotel is conveniently located on Main Street in the heart of Mercersberg. the
Rooms are basic and would expect a little more from a 4 start historic hotel. room facing the street is a little noisy so I switched to the back, which is much quieter.

Nice location and good restaurant
On the main road in town and on this Saturday night there was considerable traffic racing loudly on the road until close to midnight. Amazing that the police station was two blocks away and this was allowed!

Everything! There is history everywhere inside the hotel and even sitting quietly in the bedroom or lounge area, evokes thoughts or what these walls have seen and heard over the last 200 plus years!

There is nothing NOT to like. The staff is amazing, great bar and restaurant, and the location is perfect for a stroll around the beautiful town itself.
Nothing to say here.

Great host / manager.
Heating & cooling was under renovation when we were there. Should be a 1 night thing.

Everything! Plus the room we had was recently renovated, with new floors and a “rain” shower!
Nothing.
